It was a day of record heat across Eastern North Carolina as temperatures soared well into the 90s.

A major heat wave continues across Eastern North Carolina as record highs were set on Thursday.  There is little relief expected through the weekend as some locations could see 100 degrees.  A massive ridge of high pressure is sitting on top of the area keeping temperatures and humidity on the high side.  This combination will likely lead to a Heat Advisory for much of the area on Friday afternoon.  Record highs across the area on Thursday included the following:

New Bern - 96  (previous record high was 93 in 1993)

Jacksonville - 97  (previous record high was 93 in 2001)

Kinston - 97  (previous record high was 95 in 1975)

Greenville - 98  (previous record high was 94 in 1936)

Kenansville - 97  (previous record high was 93 in 2001)
