As most of you may know I grew up in Charlotte. My grandparents lived on Lake Norman just north of town. Memorial day was always the first day we took out the boat when I was growing up. Waiting until Memorial Day to take that first boat ride was like waiting all December to un-wrap those presents under the tree...I just could not wait. But every year that ride was certainly worth the wait.
If you've been in the Carolinas for just a few years or more you certainly know that the weather on Memorial day can range from cloudy and cool to sweltering summer heat, or severe storms. I remember taking a boat ride on Memorial Day in just about all of that weather. There were times we had to wear jackets to fight the chill or even a rain coat to keep us dry. One year we were even chased home by a hail storm that left dents in the top of the pontoon boat. But we never missed a Memorial Day boat ride.
Let me know how you celebrate this weekend. Oh and by the way...the weather looks great!
Finally, lets remember and reflect what Memorial Day is all about.
