Oh what a chill!!!
Temperatures this morning dipped down into the 30s for just about all of Eastern Carolina with the exception of the coast. In fact some spots were down to 30° including Greenville, Kinston and Kenansville.
Tonight will feature even colder temperatures. This will bring a killing freeze to most areas along and West of HWY 17. East of HWY 17 should avoid a hard freeze, but temperatures in the lower to middle 30s and calm winds will support a heavy frost in those spots.
Some of our colder spots like Rocky Mount, Kenansville, Kinston and Jacksonville have the opportunity to dip all the way down into the upper 20s.
These will be the coldest temperatures since the Easter Weekend freeze back in mid April.
I always look forward to the first freeze of the season for several reasons.
ONE: It kills the grass and flowers and means month after month of yard work is finally coming to an end.
TWO: It kills off a lot of the bugs, mosquitoes included!
THREE: It heralds in the start of the Holiday season. I know! We're just a week past Halloween, but these cold nights, brisk days, falling foliage, and yes even the occasional Christmas Carol on the radio signal the that the Holidays are right around the corner.
FOUR: The exciting winter weather season is upon us. Once we start getting to around the first of December, we as meteorologists start looking to our forecast models for the first sign of a winter storm.
In the mean time...put on a sweater, throw a log on the fire, snuggle up with a loved one and enjoy the cold weather.
Stay warm and see you on TV,
