So are you sick of the rain yet? Me...not at all, I think it has been a great change of scenery! In fact I was getting bored forecasting sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures almost the whole month of October.
Here are a few facts...Did you know that the last time we received 3 days of rain in a row was the September 20th-22nd. That fact is just for the Washington area so it may not have even been a wide spread event for Eastern Carolina. If memory serves me, I can't recall more than a handful of days this past summer where we saw a lot of rain. Tropical Storm Gabrielle was by far a big let down for us in the rain department!
Finally for the last two days we've been getting our much needed rain, however, even though some spots have pulled almost 5 inches...Hatteras, or almost 4 inches in Ahoskie we really haven't made a significant dent in our drought woes. Don't get me wrong, every little bit helps but we are going to need to double our average rainfall a month to even come close to pulling us out of our extreme drought. (Maybe we'll get lucky with a tropical storm...There is still over a month left in the hurricane season you know.)
Eventually all good things have to come to end. (Pretty ironic how I'm referring to showers as good weather!) This system bringing us the rain will move out come Saturday night, and then were back to sunny and dry in the forecast. The good news is the humidity will leave and more fall like weather will move in.
Enjoy your weekend...Jennifer Harcher
