Drought Continues Across Northern North Carolina

Drier than normal conditions during the summer has led to moderate to severe drought conditions across northern North Carolina.

The drier than normal summer has caused moderate to severe drought conditions in northern sections of eastern North Carolina, while all other locations remain abnormally dry.  Inland areas north of Highway 264 to the Virginia border are classified as moderate drought.  Portions of Halifax and Northampton counties are now in a severe drought situation.  The drought has been made worse due to the lack of rainfall and above normal temperatures for the past few months.  The next chance for rain will occur Sunday as a cool front approaches the area.  Drier conditions will return for much of next week.
