Drought Conditions Improving

Showers over the past few days has eased drought conditions across eastern North Carolina.

Weather conditions have been slowly improving across eastern North Carolina over the past few weeks.  The late spring and first half of summer was dry across much of the area.  Agricultural interests suffered greatly in June and July, lowering yield on many crops.  Over the past 3 to 4 weeks we've seen significant rainfall and that has improved the situation.  For example, since August 1 the WITN Weather Station has received 7.83" rainfall.  Even with the rainfall lately, the northern coastal plain from Rocky Mount and Wilson to Roanoke Rapids and Ahoskie are still in a moderate drought.  The remainder of eastern North Carolina is seeing abnormally dry conditions.  Little rainfall is expected over the next several days..
