The tropical Atlantic Ocean has awakened with tropical activity over the past few days. Hurricane Danielle is churning in the open Atlantic about 1800 miles away and is likely to stay well off the East Coast this weekend. It is being rapidly followed by Tropical Storm Earl, which is about 1,400 miles behind Danielle. Another tropical wave will follow Earl and could become a named storm by early next week. Earl is the fifth named storm of the season and will likely become a hurricane by the weekend. It appears unlikely that Danielle and Earl will directly impact the East Coast but ocean swells are likely to increase this weekend. The increase in swells could cause some dangerous rip currents along our beaches. Otherwise the weekend looks great for eastern North Carolina. We should see plenty of sunshine with highs in the middle to upper 80s. At this time next week we may be paying closer attention to these developing storms.
