The summer across eastern North Carolina continues to be hot and rather dry. We've seen some scattered thunderstorms over the past few days but much more rain is needed to improve the dry conditions. Areas along the Virginia border from Gatesville to Roanoke Rapids are considered to be in a severe drought. The remainder of eastern North Carolina along and north of Highway 264 is categorized as moderate drought. Locations south of Highway 264 are abnormally dry. A few additional showers and thunderstorms could develop overnight but sunny and dry conditions are expected both Friday and Saturday. Another risk of showers and thunderstorms will develop by Sunday afternoon.
