Everyone predicted at the beginning of the year the Miami Heat would win the title; some saying by going 82-0 in the regular season. The latter never happened. Hopefully the former won't either.
It's been impressive how both the Heat and Mavericks have gotten to this point. Both have cruised to 4-1 series wins in the previous rounds. Both have gotten epic performances by their best players.
But for some reason, it's just so easy to root against Miami. They're the all-star team you just missed out on as a kid. They're up in their secret, awesome treehouse with the New York Yankees, looking down at those less-worthy.
I don't fault any of the big three for coming together on a team. It makes sense. They've been able to mesh together despite their superstar swagger and create a formiddable force.
I just think the Mavericks deserve a championship more. Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd are future Hall of Famers. It's a shame to think their stellar careers will lose luster if they dont have a shiny ring. Shawn Marion could use some payback against his former team. Heck, even Corey Brewer deserves a championship-he had to suffer as a Minnesota Timberwolf for four years.
Miami will win a title. It's inevitable. Dwyane Wade has one already. Lebron is too good of a player not to get one. They just need to collectively taste defeat. The Heat need a fire in their bellies, a chip on their shoulders. Can you imagine a mad Miami team with a score to settle next year?
For now, though, it's time for the kids with the less cool treehouses to get their due.
