While the race for the White House and our state's governor seat are at the forefront of media coverage in North Carolina , there are many other races on the May 6th primary ballot.

Voters in more than two dozen Eastern Carolina counties will vote on a variety of positions: county commissioner, board of education, register of deeds, district court judge.

In Duplin, Edgecombe, Greene, Hertford, Nash, Onslow, Wayne and Wilson counties, voters will cast their ballot on a county sales and use tax. That tax is at the rate of one-quarter percent (0.25%) on top of all other sales and uses taxes locally and by the state. Meanwhile, voters in Tyrrell and Gates counties will have to decide for or against a land transfer tax.

We'll have the list of races up on witntv.com next week. WITN will provide results for as many as 100 federal, state and local races on May 6. We bring you updated results all night long online and on the air as needed.

It takes dozens of people here at the station to bring you the best possible coverage on Election Day. Reporters and videographers work in the field, throughout the day and night, gathering stories and bringing you live reports. Producers prepare the newscasts, gather results and work on the website. Our anchors research the races, help gather results and bring you live coverage of important developments. The meteorologists and the sports department help out, calling in vote totals from area boards of elections. WITN's production department is invaluable, getting the results on the air as fast as possible. Our internet and graphics people manage the web results and troubleshoot any issues to keep your online experience fast and clean.  WITN's Managing Editor Bill Wilson spends hours inputing all the races we will cover, creating a comprehensive list for results.

We want to give a special thanks to the dedicated people who run and volunteer at  Eastern Carolina 's local boards of elections. They are patient and helpful with our requests for information, and we couldn't do our job as well without their assistance. Thank you!
