My Fight Against Unsolicited Email

I have officially launched a war against unsolicited email disguised as news stories coming from sources that I supposedly have subscribed to.

I have officially launched a war against unsolicited email disguised as news stories coming from sources that I supposedly have subscribed to.

I'm not talking about legitimate email from area or state interests who have something newsworthy to tell.  Nor am I talking about spam email that automatically gets flagged and is blocked.  I'm talking about those mass emails that get sent out to untold numbers of people in the news business from entities hoping someone along the way will want to report on what they have to say, or sell.

This has been going on for quite a long time. The number I get can vary from day to day.  Sometimes it's just a couple.  Other days it can be fifteen.  Lately it has been fifty or more.  I generally just delete them (already a waste of my time) but  I've had enough.  I have started fighting back.  No, I'm not sending them unsolicited emails about things they wouldn't care about (although that's not a bad idea :)

I have started the arduous task of replying to everyone of these emails to tell them not to send me any more emails!!!  It's a fun process.  Usually at the end of their email it says I'm receiving the email because I have subscribed to their email list or purchased a product from them.  That is 100 percent not true.  Why would I subscribe to an email list to get countless unwanted emails?  So now I have to unsubscribe from a service that I never signed up for in the first place so that the emails stop.  Maddening.

As I'm writing this I just got an email from pitching a story about finance experts.  The area code is 310.  That's in California.  Now if I'm going to do a story on finance experts I'm going to find someone local to do an interview with.  She just got a return email from me..."TAKE ME OFF YOUR EMAIL LIST AND DON'T SEND ME ANY MORE EMAILS!!!!!!"

Will my efforts to declutter my inbox from unwanted, useless, annoying emails be successful?  I don't know, but I can tell you this.  It feels better to let those who are sending them know they're wasting their time with me.

Got to go...more emails to reply to, more to delete.  The fight continues.

I agree with this. They should never have to send countless emails of stuff this person did not even sign up for this. Congress should make a law out of this to save those who have countless emails about themselves.
