Picture Of The Day

This has got to be one of the strangest sights I've seen recently, so I stopped to take a picture for proof.

Yes, that is what you think it is.

I'll admit, I don't normally take pictures of road kill. I felt a little strange doing it in this instance. Then again, I've never seen road kill that's been painted over.

I snapped this picture on Brick Kiln Road in Washington, Beaufort County.

Crews with the Department of Transportation's Division of Highways just put down the fresh yellow-double lines. As you can see...the dead raccoon was in the path of the sprayer and got it too!

The road kill raccoon, now with additional stripes, definitely goes down as one of the strangest things I have seen in awhile. What do you think about it?

Now this absolutely takes the proverbial cake! I agree, why couldn't someone remove the carcass before the paint truck came through? Don't they survey these areas before they start repairs? I'm still shaking my head in disbelief!!

This reminded me of the time the mowing crew was ahead of the paint crew on one of the back roads to Grimesland. Most of the fresh paint was on the grass cuttings left on the road. Good planning....

Somebody was not paying attention! I see it is gone now, but there is a gap in the paint!

I'm so glad you got a picture of it. I saw it on the way home for lunch. By the time I ate a sandwich, grabbed my camera, and headed back into town, it was gone. Well, almost gone. Somebody had scraped the poor beast off the road. All that was left was sort of a "chalk outline" formed by the paint overspray. Maybe that outline will last long enough to remind me to do what needs doing, whether it's "my job" or not. If everybody did one extra task a day, imagine the results.
