Still Driving & Texting

I have a hard enough time texting that I certainly wouldn't even attempt it while driving...others continue to do it despite the dangers.

I have a hard enough time texting that I certainly wouldn't even attempt it while driving...others continue to do it despite the dangers.

Recently while riding as a passenger, I watched one person after another in nearby vehicles texting and driving.  They would type in a few letters, look up, look down to type in a few more, look up again.  I observed this in numerous vehicles.  You probably see the same thing.

Keep in mind,  NC has a law on the books that bans all drivers from texting and driving.  Violators can be fined $100.00 plus court costs.

Of course the bigger cost is the dangers of texting and driving.  In fact, a study by Car and Driver Magazine concludes it is worse than drinking and driving.

Just something to think about as more people are out and about on the roadways enjoying the summer.

Your gauranteed to get the finger if I see you texting or talking on your phone when I'm riding my motorcycle near you.

I too see this all of the time. Maybe if we started getting license plate numbers and turning these folks in that would stem the flow a little. You have every right to kill yourself. You do not have the right to take other innocent lives with you! How would you feel if you had to live the rest of your life knowing that you killed someone else's mother, father, sister, brother, or child? Is a conversation worth all that? What did we do prior to cellphones? WAITED UNTIL WE GOT WHERE WE WERE GOING SAFELY!! Now I am not against having cellphones, they are great for reporting emergencies and the like. But at least if you absolutely will die if you can't talk to whoever you are talking to....PULL OFF THE ROAD!! What is more important, your conversation or your life and the lives of others. Quit being so selfish and idiotic and put the phone down and DRIVE!! If someone is caught driving and texting (or even talking while driving)Don't just fine them, TAKE THEIR LICENSE!!

I think legislation is critical for raising public awareness but we can’t solely legislate our way out of this issue. I just read that 72% of teens text daily - many text more than 3000 times a month. This issue is in its infancy and its not going away. I decided to do something about it after my three year old daughter was nearly run down right in front of me by a texting driver . Instead of a shackle that locks down phones and alienates the user (especially teens) I built a tool that is a simple app for smartphones - low cost, no recurring fees. We can empower the individual and change will come to our highways now and not just our laws. Erik Wood, owner OTTER LLC www.OTTERapp.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVn2vRYaSAU
