Who's Wasting Your Money?

Who's wasting your money? It's a simple question that I would love to hear your answer to.

Who's wasting your money?  It's a simple question that I would love to hear your answer to.

We all seem to get fed up with instances where government entities, agencies and organizations waste money.  Just look at the current state of the economy in NC and the U.S.

What I'm interested in is specific examples where you believe your school board, city council, county commissioners, state lawmakers, federal lawmakers or any other publicly funded group, is wasting your money.

I'm not looking for generalities...I'm looking for specific instances.

You can either post a comment here, or e-mail your information to me at dave.jordan@witn.com.  Once I get it...I'll start to investigate it and it could develop into a story.

Who knows, the more we're able to expose this kind of spending, maybe together, we can help stop it.

more on the Washington police dept, computers are updated after only a couple years use, when there is absolutly NOTHING wrong with them, cars remain idle in the parking lot wasting gas, the Chief and his top dogs have take home cars equipped with the latest electronics yet they dont come out after hours for any calls. They actually hired a "law enforcement planner" to find grants and loans for the city for their pet project of a new police station. Non sworn personnel are allowed to put down whatever hours on their time card they wish, to get extra pay. Extra time such as, working on a holiday when all other civil employees are required to take off, costing the city money because then they have to pay that employee extra pay for working the holiday, as well as, give them another day off later for that holiday use. Ask the employees, off duty of course, and they will tell you! I know, I'm one of them!

Washington Police Department waste my money. They have a K9 unit assigned to the city of washington but yet he lives in Pitt county. He is never available for use in after hours because he lives to far away. The dog has a large SUV assigned to his handler which is even more gas to ride to and from his home in the other county. City employees can be seen from Respess St at any time of day standing out back of the police office smoking cigarettes or talking on cell phones during working hours. City vehicles are used to transport kids home from school several times a day because they are suspended instead of making the parents go pick them up. The city is begging taxpayers for a new building when it is JUST NOT NEEDED right now. The new building could house all staff fine if they didn't have so many "made up" positions for their buddies. The city charges business x amount of dollars for private security but they pay the officers, who work it during their off time, less than x dollars.
