Holiday Cards For Wounded Warriors

It was about this time last year when I wrote a blog about sending holiday mail to wounded warriors. I thought I would revisit the issue for 2009.

It was about this time last year when I wrote a blog about sending holiday mail to wounded warriors.   I thought I would revisit the issue for 2009.

Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. does not accept mail addressed to "Any Service Member, or Recovering Service Member," due to security concerns.  In fact, the U.S. Postal Service will not accept mail addressed to "Any Service Member," "Any Wounded Service Member," or anything similar.  The mail is deposited into a collection box and will not be delivered.

But there is an alternative.

The American Red Cross is conducting its "Holiday Mail for Heroes" campaign to receive and distribute holiday cards to service members and veterans both in the U.S. and abroad.

If you would like to participate you can mail the cards to:  Holiday Mail for Heroes, PO Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.  Cards must be mailed by December 7th.
