The President's Heckler

While watching the speech, I couldn't tell why so many people were booing.

If you watched President Barack Obama's address to Congress Wednesday, perhaps you were confused like I was when people started booing.  My ears didn't pick up what prompted it.  Two words: you lie.

Those two words came from South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson.  His outburst was a response to President Obama saying his health care reform plan would not cover illegal immigrants.  Representative Wilson clearly disagreed.

CNN reports today that Rep. Wilson is one of the most talked about people on the internet, saying people even started Twitter accounts late Wednesday night just to discuss the heckler.

There has been a lot of discussion about the issue of respecting the office of the President of the United States, no matter who holds the title.  Before Wilson's two words Wednesday night, people were talking about the issue of respect in reference to the president's speech to school children.

What's your opinion of respect for the presidency?  Do you think it can or should exist no matter who holds the office?  Or is respect always linked to the person and his political persuasion?
