Investigating A Former Governor

A federal grand jury is investigating Mike Easley.

North Carolina has elected its first woman governor, but the man she replaced in Raleigh still consistently makes headlines.

Federal investigators have sent several subpoenas to a variety of state agencies seeking information about Mike Easley, his wife's university job and their travel.

I have heard arguments about whether the government should spend time and resources investigating a former public official. Those in favor of the investigation say it's imperative that those accused of abusing public office and the power that comes with it be looked into.  Those opposed say it's wasteful of the government to use its investigative and prosecutorial resources on a person no longer in public office.

What do you think?
