USPS Wants To Stop Saturday Service

Would you miss it?

The United States Postal Service wants to chop a day from its delivery schedule.  The postmaster general is asking Congress for permission to stop delivering mail on Saturday.

The USPS has been fighting red ink on its books for years.  It's incremental increases in postage have not been enough to cover the costs of running the Postal Service in an era where people send more emails than actual mail.  In fact, people have come to calling letters "snail mail."

I don't know about you, but the majority of mail I get ends up in my recycle bin or going through the shredder than anything else.  Certainly not everything, but the majority of it.

Would you miss the mail on Saturdays if Congress agrees to do away with it?

I believe that the post office should go even further. Stop all Saturday mail and then stop residential mail on Wednesday too. Businesses get mail Monday - Friday. But to help us mail letters, open post offices on Saturday longer. Postal Service Centers should be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 7am - 5pm. Then Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9am to 7pm. This will help us who can't get there in time. There is always a few days a week that we have to get to the post office.

I would miss it because I am a letter carrier, this is the first I have heard about this and I work at the Post Office. I only looked into it because I have been asked by a number of my customers is it true. Just as I have stated I work at the Post Office as a letter carrier and this is news to me.

The United States of America should have the USPS deliver mail everyday except Sunday. More people are buying and selling on the internet, and you can't email packages. Reducing the number of days the USPS works would delay them. Thats OK for a third world country, but not for the United States.

Stop it on Saturdays. Give the carriers the whole weekend off. Too much junk mail anyway. We can all live with Mon-Fri. Banks close early on Saturdays anyway so what could be so important?!!!

I am all for it. We don't get anything important on Saturday anyway. From what I understand, the Post Office themselves would still be open. Need to mail something important, it can still be mailed.

well i guess it nice to receive staurday deliveries. however what is more important is to receive saturday mail or none at all. their competors dont deliver on saturday unless special fees are applied. try getting a package from a trucking co with special handlimgs and see have much you have to pay for their services since they have been deregulated by the FCC. cutting rates and increasing salaries put a compny I used to work with out of biz. I just had to deal with it, plus loss in stocks we had purchsed thru payroll deductions. If you cant make money the way you are doing biz u simply have to change or u are out. I agree alot of the salaries are way out of range with the servics rendered and most of the postal personnell i am familiar with are arrogant and rude , like with dont need or want your biz. not true with their competitors FEDX and ups employees all are very pleasant to me.

Saturday is just another work day for the majority of the us citizens. what makes the postal service so special that they should stop working. if there is a holiday it would be a three delay on our mail. i do not agree the delivery should stop.

Congress needs to take a better look at management. A ratio of 1 to 22 workers is ridiculous. Our children in our schools are 1 to 34. Bonus's should be cut, pay freezes enacted, details suspended, NO houses purchased for management. What if they actually held management accountable for their jobs instead. Why do we need 20 plus supervisors per tour with an MDO over them and a senior MDO over the MDO's and lord only knows the incompetence goes deeper. Our P.O. is failing due to managements incompetence not "JUST" the decline of the mail. I believe if the P.O. were to go to a five day work week, it would not stop there. Management will continue in the demise of the post office as we know it. Can u say "PRIVATISE" that is the ultimate agenda of MR Potter. I have no business degree, but it is obvious the decisions being made are helping in the demise. We all know the P.O. needs to be overhauled to match the new era, come on congress, dig deeper, look thru the false paper work.
