I was reminded early this morning why it is so important to drive defensively.
I was on my way from Washington to Greenville in the six o'clock hour to do the morning news for WTIB-FM and Cable Channel 7. I was following a rather slow driver on Highway 33 for awhile. That driver then turned onto Greenville Boulevard and continued at a somewhat slow pace. He turned onto Arlington Boulevard. That's where I managed to pass him. As I made my way past this motorist I noticed he looked a little sleepy...his head even seemed like it was on the headrest. I hope the honking of the horn was enough to wake him up...if that was the problem.
I continued heading to the radio/tv station, coming to a greenlight at Evans Street. While I had the right of way, the driver turning from the oncoming traffic lane seemed to think the same think. I slammed on the brakes, he slammed on the brakes, then I preceded to make my way through the intersection...all while the other driver cussed and made hand gestures to me like I did something wrong!
I share the above stories with you in hopes that you'll stay alert, safe & calm on the roadways...and to remember the other drivers may not be.
