Wouldn't it be great to be able to steer those monster hurricanes in the Atlantic away from the United States? That's exactly what Microsoft Founder Bill Gates wants to do.
Gates and several people he's working with have applied for patents that propose slowing hurricanes by pumping cold, deep-ocean water in their paths from barges.
There's no doubt the whole idea may seem a little far-fetched for some people. There were likely many skeptics that doubted what Gates could do when it came to the world of computers.
Hurricane experts say if enough pumps are deployed, it is reasonable to expect some weakening in hurricane power.
While there are certainly many questions surrounding his intriguing idea, it will be interesting to see how all of this pans out in the coming months and years.
