Power To The People!

It wasn't long ago that I posted a blog asking if people were in favor of term limits for lawmakers. Several of you responded.

One poster wanted to know how voters could go about putting such an initiative on the statewide ballot. I started to investigate and found North Carolina voters don't have any such powers like that right now. I also discovered that Guilford County Republican Representative John Blust has introduced legislation to change that.

House Bill 47, "Power of Initiative," would give voters the chance to propose any initiative they want and get it placed the statewide ballot. A petition would need signatures equal to at least twenty-percent of the votes for all candidates for governor in the most recent election to be placed on the ballot.

Right now the bill is in the House Rules Committee. Blust thinks it would take a scandal or outside events to get it before the full House of Representatives for a vote.

That outside event just might be you. If you're serious about wanting to take back government, now is your chance. Let state house members know what you think of this legislation.

I've posted the full story on our homepage along with a link to the N.C. House of Representatives for you to call and email your feedback.
