Mother Protests Kids Singing Song With The Word "Christmas"

It's something school kids do just about everywhere this time of the year...hold a Christmas concert.  But one mother is protesting.

The unidentified mother didn't want kids at Murrayville School in New Hanover County to sing "Rudolph" because of concern the words "Christmas" and "Santa" hold religious meaning.

The Principal at the school decided to pull the song from the school's holiday concert.

New Hanover County school administration and lawyers later determined the song was secular, that Santa and his reindeer are non-religious figures.  So "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" was  put back in the holiday show.

The mother requested a Hanukkah song be added to the holiday show, but that was denied. Her daughter will not participate in the concert.

Such controversy is a big difference from the elementary school concerts I participated in...I remember singing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful," with the Latin verse?

My the times have changed.
