Tis The Season?

Today is the first day of fall, a beautiful season in Eastern Carolina. I've certainly had more than enough of the scorching heat of the summer, and the cooler weather is a great change of pace.  This is the time of year when I want to be outdoors.

That's why it seemed so funny to me that my husband and I had trouble finding cushions for patio furniture this past weekend.  At  one of the big box home improvement stores, the section that normally has the outdoor patio furniture had Christmas trees.  That seemed a little early to me.  We went across the street to the other big box home improvement store, and they, too, had moved their inventory of patio furniture out of the showroom.  The sales associate said patio furniture was "out of season."

I had to laugh to myself as we walked away, cushion-less.  This is the season I most want to spend time relaxing outside.  I love Christmas, but I'm nowhere near interested in decking the halls for the year yet.  I usually wait until Thanksgiving passes to do that.

We did eventually find the cushions we were looking for, so I'm looking forward to afternoons in the slightly cooler fall air, without the harsh heat of the summer.  Tis the season!

I think that it's funny and sad that these North Carolinian's think that any temperature under 70 degrees is cold!

Heather, where have you been all your life? The retail business has always stocked one season ahead as long as I can remember. If they didn't push out the current seasons stock, you would see garden plants in the winter and coats and hats in the summer. You will notice though, due to the tough economic times, retailers are setting out the next seasons stock earlier to try to entice shoppers to start shopping early for holidays and vacation plans ahead. Try to find a bathing suit for a winter cruise in the Caribbean during the winter months, they just don't exist. Hense, start planning ahead for those off season items. Most likely, you would have found your patio cushions on sale a month ago.
