Fill Up While You Can!

It's nice to see gas prices fall a bit...even if it's likely only temporary.

Gas prices are now down to $3.51 at the last station where I filled up.  That's about 50 cents cheaper than earlier this summer.  Still not a bargain...but a bit more tolerable.

The bad news is that prices could increase again real soon.  Oil prices are expected to jump as Hurricane Gustav heads towards the Gulf.  The coast of a barrel of oil increased $1.16 Tuesday  to close at $116.27.  It's only expected to go higher as evacuations of some oil platforms in the Gulf could begin as early as Wednesday.

I'm still hopeful Gustav won't cause much disruption in the Gulf...but as far as the market speculators are concerned...it appears it already has!

I understand how the price of oil is determined, I truly do. But it is very difficult not to raise an eyebrow when every storm, broken mirror and barking dog causes the price of gas to skyrocket. All I know is when my Jeep was new I could fill it up for $12.00 flat. Today I put in an even $60.00 and I wanna yell at somebody!

The reason the prices are falling is because of the election. When the Dems regained control of the Congress and Bush entered his 2 year lame duck session gas was $2.16 a gallon, consumer confidence was high, housing starts at an all-time high, low unemployment, strongest ever stock market, and so on. After 2 years of Dem control all those things have gone to the dogs and you hear no comparisons from the media.
