Talk about a vacation that turned into a nightmare.
An 8 year-old Florida boy was attacked by a black bear while hiking in the Smoky Mountains in neighboring Tennessee. Luckily, he and his family fought the bear off and the boy only suffered cuts that required stitches.
While scary, what happened in the Great Smokies straddling the Tennessee-North Carolina border, is actually rare.
Park officials say black bears have injured eight people there in the past decade. They say that's a relatively low number considering 9 million people visit the park every year.
Regardless, you can only imagine the fright that must have been going through that boy's mind as he was being attacked. Thank goodness he's alright.
