Our Obligation As Journalists

Ever since we reported crime was up eight-percent in Greenville last year, the second highest increase in the state, there has been a flood of reaction and controversy.

Ever since we reported crime was up eight-percent in Greenville last year, the second highest increase in the state, there has been a flood of reaction and controversy.

Viewers of WITN have posted hundreds of comments about crime stats, Chief William Anderson and crime overall in Greenville. Others have started and online petition for an investigation of the department. That also has hundreds of signatures, some anonymous.

As journalists, when so many accusations are made and so many people speaking out, we have an obligation not to turn the other way and ignore what is going on. We have an obligation to seek the truth, whatever it may be.

I have been investigating many of the claims that have been made at witn.com and the online petition. We'll begin sharing the results of what I found Thursday on WITN News at Six.
