During an election year, viewers watch carefully to see how the media covers the candidates. It's a delicate balancing effort for us, making sure to cover each candidate as fairly and equally as possible.
One viewer wrote in this morning, concerned that Heather King had interviewed Barack Obama live on WITN News at Sunrise this primary day. She was concerned about bias against Hillary Clinton.
WITN has covered both candidates extensively on their campaigns across North Carolina and beyond.
We have covered all Clinton's visits to Eastern Carolina, even live streaming her speech from Jacksonville on WITN-TV and witntv.com. We also aired live shots from her appearance in Kinston and aired her speech live on witntv.com. We have traveled to Raleigh-Durham to cover her on the campaign trail there. We have covered two of Bill Clinton's visits to Eastern Carolina, one of them with live reports.
Barack Obama's visit to Greenville was aired live in part here on WITN-TV and witntv.com, with live coverage from Minges Coliseum at ECU. While we covered another Obama visit in Wilson, we did not do so live. We have traveled to Fayetteville to cover his campaign efforts.
When Obama's campaign team offered the chance to interview him live this morning, we discussed the possibility and made the decision to move forward. We felt it was a fair move in the balance of coverage of the two candidates. We made sure to include soundbites and other stories about Clinton this morning as well.
We hope you'll continue to keep WITN tuned in throughout this Primary Day... we are following more than 100 races, including federal, state and local contests. We'll bring you the results tonight on WITN-TV as well on witntv.com.
