Safety is a big concern as parents send their kids off to college.
I found a great resource online for you to check out that might give you a better picture of the campus where your child is heading this fall, or you may consider sending him or her in the future.
The site is operated by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Post Secondary Education. It's called the Campus Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool website.
The website allows you to plug in any college or university that participates in federal student aid programs and pull up all sorts of statistics related to crime and safety.
The site does stress that the statistics represent alleged criminal offenses reported to campus security or police, not actual prosecutions. That's information you need to take into account when looking at the statistics. But it's a starting point that could give you a better idea if you need to do some more investigating if you see something that throws up a red flag.
The site, which I've included below, also includes links to various other campus security related sites.
