Mondays Just Got Pretty Exciting!

NBC's new prime time season officially kicks off on Monday. Chuck will be back at 8pm and then we have two very interesting and exciting new shows for your viewing pleasure!

What is The Event? I wish I knew. This was the last show to arrive on DVD for previewing at WITN and it is probably also the most interesting, compelling, intriguing and confusing show of all! NBC has maintained a shroud of mystery around the show, with the cast instructed to keep future details secret, even from their closest relatives. All I can tell you about The Event is what I learned by watching the pilot.

My first bit of advice is that you clean the deck and be prepared to pay attention while watching the show. Set it up to be recorded on the DVR just to be safe. The story employs an interesting technique of shifting time throughout the hour. You watch one scene and then the action jumps back several days or hours and by the time that scene is completed you start to have a better understanding of the prior scene. We have several characters in the show. Blair Underwood portrays the President of the United States and he is in Coral Cables celebrating his young son’s birthday. Jason Ritter plays Sean Walker, a very likeable young man who takes his girlfriend on a cruise with the intention of making her his fiancée.
We also get to meet Sophia, played by Laura Innes from ER and it is slowly revealed that she is the leader of a group being held at a secret government facility in Alaska. The president has found out about this secret facility and has brought Sophia to make a special announcement, except there is a commercial airliner that has been commandeered by a crazed man, who also happens to be Sean’s future father-in-law. Sorry, I forgot, I need to take you back in time to explain that Sean’s future fiancée has mysteriously disappeared, someone has attacked her family and Sean has pulled a gun and is trying to get into the cockpit until stopped by an air marshal. That brings us back to the present with the airplane headed for the presidential compound except suddenly it disappears. As Sophia goes on to explain, “There are certain things we haven’t told you.” Got it? You’ll need to watch it to help it all make sense, but as the story unfolds you keep having those, “Oh, now I get it!” moments. So tune in on Monday night at 9:00pm and watch The Event unfold.
Following The Event we will have the premiere of Chase. This is the new 1-hour drama from Jerry Bruckheimer. You expect a lot of action from the man who created Pirates of the Caribbean, C.S.I., Without A Trace and National Treasure and it’ here in Chase. Imagine a tough U.S. Marshall in the form of a good-looking, blonde female with a heart and you’ve got Annie Frost. We learn that Annie grew up in an abusive household and works out that emotional baggage on some of the most dangerous hunted criminals in the Southwest. The show has a great ensemble cast of characters, lots of action and a relentless hard driving woman in cowboy boots and jeans that doesn’t quit until justice is served.
