Report: Kids In Child Care Get More Illnesses

A new report confirms what many believed: children in child care get sick more often than kids who stay at home. However, things seem to balance out when elementary school starts.

Pay me now or pay me later.  That's a favorite expression in our house, and I think it applies to a new study about kids in child care getting sick more often than young children who stay at home.

Researchers found kids placed in daycare before age two-and-a-half were more likely to develop respiratory and ear infections early in life.  However, those who were in a home care setting got sick most often between the ages of five and eight.  That's according to a new study of 1,200 families.

Pay me now or pay me later.

It's never fun for babies and kids to get sick, but it certainly is a fact of life.  Lauren has had her runny noses.  I certainly hope the study's authors are correct that she'll have fewer bouts of the sniffles when she gets a little older, perhaps paying the price now for an early exposure to more germs.  In the meantime, we'll do our best to keep her healthy.  Besides, no one likes those suction bulbs used on little noses before kids are old enough to blow their own nose.
