Baby Reveal Parties

Have you ever heard of this way to discover and announce whether you're having a boy or a girl?

A friend told me about something called a "baby reveal party" yesterday, and I wanted to see if any of you have heard of them.  It sounds like a pretty fun and elaborate way to find out whether you're having a boy or a girl.

When the woman goes in her for ultrasound to find out the gender of the baby, instead of telling the parents, the doctor calls an appointed friend and shares the news.  Then the appointed friend calls a bakery.  The bakery then prepares a cake with a layer of frosting in the middle that is either blue or pink.  With friends and family gathered round, the expectant mom (or parents) cut into the cake at a "baby reveal party," and everyone learns together whether the baby on the way is a boy or a girl.

Have you ever heard of this?  What other fun trends have you seen for pregnant moms? Or, did you announce your pregnancy or the gender of your baby in a creative way?

I have heard of this. It is pretty neat and I would like to do something like this. I would make a change though. I personally wouldn't want somebody else finding out the gender before me. I think I'd rather the Dr. tell me and my husband and then we could reveal the news to everyone else at a party.

My son and daughter-in-law had a baby reveal party. She prepared two cakes the night before going to the dr. to learn the sex of their baby. One cake had pink layers, the other had blue. Both had the same icing. They knew which was which. After leaving the dr.'s office, they came to the party gathering of family and close friends and revealed the sex of the baby by cutting into the cake.
