Baby Names? There's An App For That

It's called "Kick to Pick."

There was very little debate in our house when it came to picking names for our baby.  I think Chris and I actually settled on names for both a boy and a girl way before my pregnancy, and that was that.  Since we didn't know whether we were having a boy or a girl, we had names ready to go for both.

Should the debate over baby names rage in your house, there's an app for that.  The "Kick To Pick" App costs 99 cents, and it lets the baby pick their own name.  You select boy or girl (assuming you know the sex of your child) and wait for the child to kick.  Then, supposedly, the app selects a name based on the baby's kicking, what the app calls "important input."  The app also lets you star names that you are already considering, and then let the baby "make the final decision."

This is just the latest way smartphones are getting involved in pregnancy and raising children.  I know many mommies like me often switch quickly to the camera feature to capture happy moments of their children.  Within seconds, my relatives in the Midwest are seeing the picture or video on their phones, followed by friends across the country who see what I posted to Facebook.

I even once desperately downloaded an app that made the noise of the waves in the ocean when Lauren was just a few weeks old and we were traveling to help her sleep.

Another idea I strongly considered but ultimately rejected when I was pregnant was using Twitter to keep people posted on the pregnancy and how things were going once we got to the hospital.

Do you have any apps that you think other parents will love?
