Experts recommend pregnant women only gain 25 to 35 pounds during their pregnancy. Honestly, that was my intention. It just didn't work out that way. I went through a long stretch of my pregnancy where if I got hungry, I felt nauseated. That's not a fun way to go through life, so I ate more than I should have. And I ate more of the foods that I typically consider "off limits." A salad just didn't sound as satisfying to my pregnant self as, say, a cheeseburger.
Needless to say, I did not stay within the recommended weight gain amount. Happily, a lot of the weight just dropped off in the first six weeks or so after Lauren was born. Since then, I have been stuck around the same weight, despite having a pretty healthy diet.
After trying to focus on a workout video to lose weight, I have decided to go back to basics and kick the cardiovascular workouts into high gear. More time on the elliptical is my new plan of attack, with a renewed focus on a healthy diet that's low in sugar and processed foods.
I'd love to hear what has worked for other moms as they battled the baby bulge. Let's learn from each other's successes!
I do want to add that, without a doubt, working hard to get back in shape is worth every drop of sweat and every muscle ache. Lauren is the light of my life! I not only want to be in shape, I want to set a good example of a healthy lifestyle.
