You may have heard of Restless Leg Syndrome. I never knew the excited sensations in my legs had a name until a recent rollout of commercials advertising for a prescription drug to treat RLS. However, not long into my second trimester, even when I was exhausted, my legs started having trouble settling down.
The Mayo Clinic says pregnancy is linked to Restless Leg Syndrome. I'm glad I'm not alone in this. The Mayo Clinic also says there is no real cure for RLS. However, there are a few things to do to help relax the creepy crawly feeling at night, such as stretching and massaging my legs or taking a bath.
Anything you have done to help treat Restless Legs Syndrome? Fortunately, the Mayo Clinic says RLS related to pregnancy usually goes away after the baby is born.
Leg cramps are another issue with legs during pregnancy. The crop up in the middle of the night in a surprising place--the calf. A friend recommended eating bananas to get some good potassium to help fight these cramps. So far, my daily banana regimen (which was hard to swallow at first for this non-banana-lover) has worked like a charm.
