There’s nothing like a little snow to boost traffic here at WITN.Com. January 2009 is our best month to date as we tallied over 3 million page views. To be precise, our new record total is 3,063,206 page views.
Our biggest day was Tuesday, January 20th when we had over 380,000 page views. We had a lot of traffic on Monday before the snow even hit the ground. Strong traffic continued on Thursday and Friday of that week with tens of thousands of views to the snow pictures on Carolina Camera. Many of you sent in some great snow pictures and we do appreciate them.
If you’re curious, the 380,000+ views in one day did not set a record. Last January, we topped 500,000 the day that the national press got a hold of the Maria Lauterbach story.
Our top non-weather related story in January 2009 was about the Wayne County man arrested for animal abuse. It tallied 18,030 views. The bulk of our video views were devoted to our web weather forecasts and many of those were viewed well over a thousand times. Even our top news video was weather related – It was the ECU snowball fight.
Our readers keep us very busy when it comes to approving comments. There are over 30 stations in the Gray Television Group, however the second and third most commented stories in our entire group were posted on WITN.com. We had 426 approved comments on the Kitty Hawk Pit Bull story and 401 approved comments regarding the inauguration of Barack Obama.
Thanks for helping make January a great month for us on the web.
