Royal Baby Reflections

I am confident I’m not alone that when Prince William and Kate emerged from the doors of St. Mary’s, tears started welling up in my eyes.  It’s not because they’re so incredibly famous, or royal.  Honestly, I’m not sure exactly what about the scene moved me to tears, but it’s probably the same trigger within me that prompts me to cry at weddings, even when I don’t know the couple well.  Sometimes, things are so beautiful, we cry.  And the image of new parents, cradling their new baby, is beautiful.

Also beautiful was the world’s attention being focused, if only for a while, on something from the “good news” category.  In a time of economic turmoil, war, violence and countless other societal ills that so typically take the top spots of a newscast, talking about a baby was a refreshing change from the anchor desk.

What did you think about the coverage of the royal baby?

I want to share an email with you about another royal baby watch that was underway this week, here in Eastern Carolina.  A man named Danny from Windsor emailed me that his daughter-in-law was due “any day” with the first girl in their family in six decades.  Danny’s mom and dad had three boys, he and his wife had three boys, and their three boys had, you guessed it, three boys. Now one of Danny’s boys was getting ready to welcome a girl, who in Danny’s words, “would be a princess from the very beginning.”

Danny was kind enough to follow up with me that his granddaughter, Emily, was born at Vidant Tuesday morning.  The whole family is doing well and for the first time seeing pink.
