My Baby Is One And Walking

Has it really been a year since Lauren was born?

For those of you who caught Lauren's recent appearance on the Sunrise Show already know, she turned one this month! (You can watch the video and get a link to pictures here.)

The first year of Lauren's life has been amazing. She's gone through so many changes, and so have Chris and I. I will never forget when Lauren was born. We didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl, and I get tears in my eyes when I think about Chris saying, "It's Lauren! It's Lauren!" We had names selected for both a boy and a girl. I have decided that our wedding was the best day of my life, and Lauren's birth was the best moment.

I will never forget the blue sky the day we drove Lauren home from the hospital, and all the wondering if we were doing everything, or anything, right the first few days home. I remember when she slept, I spent half the time staring at her, either over her bassinet or on the screen of the video baby monitor.

Then the fun really started when she started smiling regularly and acquired her "tricks," as we liked to call them--holding her head up, rolling over, crawling and now, walking. I can't tell you how many times over the past few months we have said, "She's going to be walking any day now!" She started walking while holding on to furniture around Christmas. She took her first two consecutive steps at the end of March and has really started walking more than she crawls over the past week.

It's a little sad to start to see her chunky thighs start to thin out. I am not sure I am ready for her baby fat to disappear! I think it will be a while before that happens in earnest... I am just grateful for every day I get to spend with my little Lauren.

We watch you and Jim every morning and have enjoyed watching Lauren grow up. She is such a beautiful little lady. I would love to see more of her on the show, maybe a weekly parenting segment with you and Lauren.

She is a beautiful little girl, and so lucky to have parent's that love and care so much for her. It's hard to believe she's a year old now. Enjoy, as she will be grown before you turn around good!
