Day 16: Purge Your Pantry
If you plan to eat healthy don't tempt yourself with unhealthy items lurking in the pantry. Get a garbage bag and start tossing. You can donate unopened items. Check the first three ingredients and toss the food if any of the first ingredients are sugar or they end in "ose" or "ol."
If it ends in "ose" it is an added sugar full of empty calories. Exceptions are naturally occurring sugars in milk and fructose found in fruit and vegetables.
If it ends in "ol" theses are sugar alcohols chemically different from regular sugars- meaning they can be included in products labeled "sugar-free." While sugar alcohols are lower in calories, they can be just as fattening when consumed in large quantities.
Day 17: Pledge to never be Hungry!
You don't have to starve yourself to lose weight or stay thin. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Eating small meals and snacks every couple of hours will keep you feeling satisfied and keep your metabolism churning. So make sure you have snacks prepared for the week. Here are some low calorie, pre-packaged, and nutritious snacks for people on the go. You can find all of these online and they all come in single serving packs so you don't over indulge. Just throw them in your bag and go!
-Crum Creek Mills Soy Nut Mix- pumpkin and sunflowers seeds with raisins and chocolate
-Justin's Nut Butter- just squeeze a single-size portion of honey peanut butter with a banana
-Blue Diamond Almonds- a handful of almonds laced with wasabi and soy sauce or barbecued
-Cat Cora's Kitchen/ Gaea Olive Snack Pack- This is a great snack when you need something different for your tastebuds. Plump olives in peppy flavors including oregano, chili, and pepper.
Day 18: Take the Right Pills
There are so many vitamins and supplements out there it's hard to navigate the health isle these days. Three pills good for almost anyone are: a multivitamin, calcium with magnesium, and vitamin D. A recent discovery that seems to work for my low back pain? Willow bark! It contains salicin, and anti-inflammatory agent that's similar to the active ingredient in aspirin.
Day 19: Pass the Popcorn!
I love popcorn so much I received a popcorn maker twice as a gift. Air popping is best, but if you don't have one at home you can buy a bag of air-popped popcorn at almost any store now, OR- check this out- put a quarter cup of kernels in a paper lunch bag and fold over the top. Microwave on high for about 2 minutes or until the kernels stop popping. Then coat the popcorn with cooking spray and sprinkle on cinnamon or garlic salt and you have a 90-100 calorie snack of 3 cups of popcorn. The same as just 9 potato chips.
