Here's a challenge appropriate for Valentine's Day: spread kindness.
Help a stranger with directions. Hold the elevator doors.
You know helping someone can boost your mood. A recent study shows it can also be contagious. When people taking part in the research in the University of California study acted cooperatively in the public good, their positive intention cascaded outward, influencing up to three more helpful people.
I had a car crash a few years back and was sitting at home with my dog crying about the 20 stitches in my head when 3 friends from work came over with a bag full of my favorite comforting things: O Magazine, tea, snacks, and other things I don't even remember because it was the thought and friendship that mattered most to me. I told them I looked awful and didn't want any visitors, but they came anyway- and I was thrilled to have someone to talk to instead of moping.
Share your story of a stranger's or friend's kindness and then pay it forward. Happy Valentine's Day!
