Since January 1st, I have lost and kept off a total of about 10 pounds. I'm actually not sure what I weigh because my trainer suggested I hand over my home scale to him until my goal date. What a brilliant idea! When I've lost weight in the past, if I saw a gain of 1or 2 pounds I would get very discouraged. My strong points are sticking to a workout routine and eating well, but once I see a setback- that’s it. I say, "What’s the point? I'm working hard and I see no results!" This time around, my clothes are fitting looser, I see differences in my body, and I feel great, but I don’t worry about what the scale says.
2 more changes have helped me. My trainer, Lowell Taylor in Washington, suggested I lose weight slowly to keep it off and extend my goal date from March 15th to Memorial Day for a total weight loss of about 15-20 pounds... which will amount to the main goal to have about 22% body fat. Originally I had a goal to lose 15 pounds by my birthday, but we re-evaluated and came up with my new goals. Also I have one cheat day a week, I can eat or drink ANYTHING I want for that one day. I find after eating healthy all week I feel sick if I overdo it on my cheat day, but it's nice to have a glass of wine or a burger and not feel guilty.
So far, I’ve stuck to my plan fairly well. I eat 1700-1900 calories a day. 1 day a week I have a cheat day. I will not weigh until my goal date. I work out 3 times a week (2 times with my trainer).
I’ve been able to do this while moving from my apartment to a house, so I know I can step it up now that the move is over. Now I will add more cardio (1-2 times a week). Plus I will be able to plan my meals better. I was doing great, and then moving week came and I fell off the wagon- nothing major… but I just had to eat what was available.
Here’s what I’ve learned/ remembered about weight loss. Doing it right is not easy. It takes, planning, time, and effort. You get out what you put in. Once you have a routine, it gets easier. So far, I’ve been happy with my results, and most off all, keeping off the weight.
