Scientists have discovered a star 265 times the size of the sun. That's kind of hard to comprehend.
For some perspective, the sun is almost ten times more massive than an average star. Until recently, scientists say there was an assumption that there was a fundamental upper limit to how massive a star could be and that upper limit was 150 times the mass of the sun. Not anymore.
The other amazing thing about this new star is where it was found. Astronomers found it in a galaxy 165 thousand light years from the Milky Way. That makes my mind numb just trying to figure it all out.
The star is thought to be the largest ever discovered. Scientists say doubling the upper limit to how massive a star can be poses more questions than it answers. I couldn't agree more.
