Two cities in the east top out at 100 degrees today, while many were a close second.

The summer sizzle hits its high spot today with extremely hot conditions across the east. The combination of a hot southwesterly flow and very dry ground allowed temperatures to be near 100 degrees in many locations today. We'll see a couple more days of 90s in store for the east, but not as hot as it was on Sunday. A stronger cold front will move through the area on Tuesday increasing the chances for showers and thunderstorms at that time. Cooler 80s will be moving into the area on Wednesday with much drier air for the end of the week with plenty of sunshine. A refreshing northwest flow will be the result for the end of the week making for pleasant conditions. Here are the high temperatures across the region today. Roanoke Rapids  100, Rocky Mount 100, Ahoskie  99, Edenton  99, Greenville 99, Washington  99, Goldsboro  99, Elizabeth City  98, Manteo  97, Kinston  97, Kenansville  97, New Bern  96, Jacksonville  94, Morehead City  88, and Cape Hatteras  85.
