This has been one of those weeks in the newsroom where major stories have been keeping us busy non-stop.
It all started with the arrest over the weekend of Greenville City Councilwoman Kandie Smith on charges of trespassing and resisting an officer. Unless you've been under a rock, you know that story has sparked debate on a number of fronts. The reaction we have been getting to this story here on our website has been amazing to watch. As I write this blog 1,154 people have posted comments about what happened.
Wednesday kept us busy with a bank robbery in Fremont, Wayne County. We routinely cover bank robberies, but this one was elevated to a major story when it ended with the police chief firing shots at the suspect, ending in his arrest.
Thursday saw another hectic day with an eleven-hour standoff in Rocky Mount that ended when the suspect was shot three times as he tried to get away. We were live in Rocky Mount throughout the day and on the air over and over again from 5:00 to 6:30 pm as the story evolved.
That's just a look at some of what's kept us busy this week...and it's not over yet!
