It's not often that we get to report on a happy ending to a story that has the potential to not turn out that way. Here's a chance to do that.
You may remember the picture that accompanies this blog. Abby Bennethum snapped it last year of her four-year-old daughter Paige, who didn't want to let go of her father, Army Reservist Staff Sergeant Brett Bennethum, as he was getting set to deploy from Berks County, Pennsylvania, to Iraq.
The photo quickly went viral and pulled at the heartstrings of many. No words were needed. We all knew what that little girl in the red, white and blue dress was thinking last July.
Fast-forward nearly a year later and the pictures being snapped today at the Bennethum household are of a welcome home.
Staff Sgt. Bennethum returned home for good this past weekend.
His daughter Paige says she's definitely glad that he's home. She also told reporters what that now famous picture means for her now. "I'm always gonna' remember he's gonna' be back after work every day!"
