"Seriously, No One In NYC Or DC Is Going To Read This Website"
The quote you see above is from a comment posted on a recent WITN.COM story. I'll be the first to say that no one in NYC or DC is watching WITN News on Channel 7 but we are developing a good sized web audience in all 50 states and beyond.
You may be wondering how we can tell where our web traffic is coming from. There are two sources that we use. One is Google Analytics and that is proprietary information available only to our marketing folks. The other is accessible to any internet user and that source is quantcast.com. Go to that site and input "WITN.COM" and you'll be able to get a pretty good estimate of our traffic and where our web users are located.
These are our top 10 DMA's for "unique visits" according to Quantcast
1) Greenville-New Bern-Washington
4) Washington DC*
5) New York
6) Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News
8) Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem
9) Los Angeles
I've got asterisks on Raleigh and DC because we believe that some local "Eastern Carolina" traffic is routed through servers in both of those markets.
WITN.COM usage tracks all the way down to the nation's smallest media markets. The market with the least "unique users" of WITN.Com is Presque Isle, Maine with 22 uniques in March 2010.
Even though 98% of our unique traffic is tracked to North America, we still received 10 or more unique visits last month from 99 different countries.
You can find any of this information at quantcast.com where you can also compare our traffic to any of the other local media websites you may visit from time-to-time.
