Grim Assessment From General McChrystal

In case you missed it, the general in charge of troops in Afghanistan says we are not winning the war, but are in fact losing it.

In case you missed it, the general in charge of troops in Afghanistan says we are not winning the war, but are in fact losing it.

General Stanley McChrystal delivered that message to lawmakers during a house hearing Tuesday.

General McChrystal wanted 40,000 more troops...he got 30,000.  The general says he believes we will be successful and he agrees with the president's decision.

When asked if finding Osama Bin Laden matters, McChrystal said it does because Bin Laden is an icon whose survival is emboldening terrorists.  He also warned taking on Bin Laden's allies, the Taliban, will mean more U.S. casualties than ever in the 9th year of the war.

As more troops head to Afghanistan, thousands from here in eastern Carolina, it would seem lawmakers and those in charge of war strategy have a few important questions that need to be answered before moving forward...why can't we catch Bin Laden and why can't we defeat the Taliban?

What do you think the answers are to those questions?
