H1N1 Vaccine: Have You Made Up Your Mind?

Whether or not you or your children will get the swine flu vaccine is a hot topic.

Most conversations I have had with friends over the past week eventually end up wandering into swine flu vaccine territory.  Some friends with children say they will absolutely get the vaccine.  Others say, absolutely not.  I spoke to one mother the other day struggling with the decision.  She teachers her children herself at home, however, she says the play with other children in the neighborhood after school.  A child who lives across the street from her just got diagnosed with swine flu.

There is a lot of information going around.  Confusing the issue is doctors going on the news who say they are skeptical about the vaccine, while the CDC and many other health experts are recommending the vaccine, especially for people in high risk categories.

At this point, my questions is this: have you made up your mind on the vaccine or are you still gathering information?

People in Pitt County can ask questions about the vaccines and the flu in general at a flu summit Thursday evening at 7 p.m. It's taking place at the Commissioners' Auditorium on Fifth St. in Greenville.

Would you willfully accept our government telling you that you HAVE to take a hypothetical "Aids" vaccine by injecting the virus into your body? I didn't think so

Yes I've decided that my children will not receive the vaccine. We have never gotten the seasonal flu vaccine because everyone we knows that gets the vaccine then turns around and gets the flu. Now it could be coincidence but I am not taking chances. My kids have healthy immune systems and very rarely get sick. I have taught them proper and frequent hand washing and they avoid any child that appears sick. The swine flu vaccine maybe fine but it also maybe under tested and I won't put my children at a "chance" not with their health. Not when I know that with proper care they will not get sick and if they do get sick they have no underlying diseases to compromise their immune system therefore would be no worse then the regular flu.
