Thank You, Officer Woolard

We have the video of an animal control officer rescuing an injured bird at the WITN Studio in Greenville.

As with any workplace, strange things happen at work sometimes.  That was the case here Tuesday.

Just a few minutes before showtime, at 5 a.m., we heard a loud thud.  A bird had flown into the top of the windows that line the front of the studio in Greenville.  There was a second thud when the bird hit the ground.

Jim went out to investigate and said the bird wasn't moving.  We all thought it had died from the impact.  So Jim moved the bird to the side, to be dealt with more properly after the show.

Right before the show ended, nearly two hours later, the bird showed us all, it was not dead.  The bird was hopping across the parking lot on one leg!  We were excited, but quickly concerned.  The bird was not trying to flap its wings and was not using one of its legs at all.  It was looking for shelter and hopped underneath an SUV parked in front of the studio.

We called Animal Control, and within minutes, Officer Woolard arrived, ready to come to the rescue.

Officer Woolard said he would take the bird to the veterinarian to be checked out.  Even though his job was done, Officer Woolard was kind enough to call back with a good news update on the bird.  He told us the vet thought the bird's leg could be fixed, and it was headed to a wildlife rehabilitation center.  Thank you, Officer Woolard!
