As nice as Independence Day was, Sunday might be the other side of the coin. What a gorgeous Independence Day for Eastern Carolina. First of all it started on a crisp note for this time of year. Many areas saw temperatures in the 50s and 60s this morning. Very comfortable. Jacksonville had a low of 55, with Kenansville at 57, and Rocky Mount at 58. Not bad for the Fourth of July. The rest of the day was just about perfect. Low humidity, plenty of sunshine, and tolerable temperatures in the mid and upper 80s. But heading through the overnight, clouds will start to increase ahead of the next system. It looks like it will washout the last day of the holiday weekend. A stationary boundary over the top of us will act as a track for upper level disturbances the next couple of days. This means numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop during the day on Sunday. There is the potential for some strong to possibly severe storms, depending on how much sunshine we get. At this point temperatures will be cooler with the cloud cover and showers. The showers will continue into Monday, with a few isolated showers into Tuesday. Thereafter, it appears to get drier, with a warm up in the temperatures. We'll see highs in the 80s, then into the 90s as we head towards the end of the week.
