Thanks to clouds on Saturday, our high temperatures in the WITN viewing area topped out in the  low and mid 90s, even 94 in Kitty Hawk. That was warmer than many locations across the East. There was one location that did hit 100, and that was Fayetteville. Because of thick cirrus clouds and other mid level clouds, temperatures were held back a bit. It was hot, don't get me wrong, but the clouds kept our temperatures 4-8 degrees cooler than expected. Despite the "cooler" conditions, some areas had heat indexes of 102-106, still putting us in the caution range. Clouds can often wreak havoc with forecasts. So can ground moisture. If there's enough moisture in the ground, temperatures will be a bit cooler than expected, because the sun's energy goes into drying the ground, instead of heating drier ground. A weak cold front will cool our temperatures a few degrees on Sunday, with 80s likely for the early part of next week. Conditions are looking dry most of the week.
